Happy June to all of you! I hope that the beginning of your summer break is going well and you can enjoy the longer nights and festivities of the season! I represent the 48th Assembly District in the California State Legislature. This term serves as my 10th year as a Legislator in the California State Assembly. It is an honor to serve over 498,000 residents in our district and collaborate with nine cities in the San Gabriel Valley. I am excited to share our May 2026 Newsletter, giving you a monthly reflection on all the happenings in the District and Capitol!

Young Legislators Walk It Out

Our Young Legislators showed out in full force at the Baldwin Park Mental Health Awareness and Resource Fair, volunteering their time to ensure the success of this wonderful event. This meaningful service opportunity marked their final program experience before traveling to Sacramento in late June for their culminating leadership trip. Thank you to our amazing 2026 cohort for your service and your presence.
Baldwin Park Mental Health Awareness Walk and Resource Fair

May was Mental Health month, so naturally, the City of Baldwin Park and I collaborated on hosting the Mental Health Awareness Walk and Resource Fair. This event was full of spirit, incredible resources, fun performances and was a clear reminder that the most valuable asset we have is our well-being and the loving connections we create; these two things work in concert to create a better you and a better world. A special thank you to the community partners and city staff who made this event a success!
Valley County Water District 100th Anniversary Celebration

Thank you to the Valley County Water District for inviting me to attend their 100th Anniversary Celebration and Water Awareness event! It was a great event, very well attended and engaging (not to mention they had one of my favorites, In-N-Out Burger serving lunch!) As a former Valley County Water Board Member, I was excited to celebrate the district’s century of service to the San Gabriel Valley and the amazing residents of the 48th Assembly District.

Congratulations to the San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center on opening their second location in Irwindale! The Regional Center supports 18,000 individuals, making the new location closer and more accessible for many constituents. Thank you for the work you do and the impact you have on our community.
Duarte Chamber of Commerce San Gabriel Valley Women’s Summit

My team had the opportunity to attend the annual Duarte Chamber of Commerce 2026 San Gabriel Valley Women’s Summit. It was inspiring to hear powerful stories and meaningful conversations, reminding us to remain rooted in our values, stay resilient through change, and courageous enough to continue rising. This event reflects personal and professional empowerment that continues to bring incredible women together for a day of connection, inspiration, and mutual support.
Capitol Updates
Nonprofit of the Year

The Legislature celebrated the Nonprofit of the Year this month, and we had the privilege of recognizing Baldwin Park’s own, Looms for Lupus, which provides lupus, fibromyalgia and mental health awareness, advocacy and support. Their efforts not only impact the individuals living with these conditions, but their families and caregivers, lawmakers and community members, serving as a critical resource. Looms for Lupus was started by three sisters, who I am so inspired by and proud of for their exceptional work, lasting impact and positive influence on the 48th Assembly District, and beyond. Congratulations on this distinguished award.
Legislative Updates
May can be described as the kind of month where a single day feels like it contains an entire week. The Assembly had over 500 bills to vote on before May 29, the deadline for all bills from each house to be presented (the Senate must present Senate bills, and the Assembly must present Assembly bills). Staff, security and legislators stayed long hours, leading up to that deadline, to get bills passed in a timely manner! June entails committee hearings and floor sessions, but each house now has the opposite house’s bills to review. The Assembly will be reviewing Senate bills and vice versa. Another important deadline during this period is the state budget bill, which must be passed by June 15. This deadline creates opportunities for last-minute advocacy efforts, allowing stakeholders and community groups to elevate key issues and help secure the funding and policy commitments needed to ensure their continued support and implementation. Our office has remained focused on advancing policies that directly impact the district, with particular emphasis on supporting foster youth, survivors of domestic violence, women and children, and workforce development and career training initiatives.

Drop: A Free and Fast Way for Californians to Protect Their Privacy

Californians now have a simple, free way to protect their personal information with the Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP), a new tool from CalPrivacy. Instead of tracking down hundreds of data brokers that collect and sell your data, you can visit one state website and send a single request directing all registered data brokers to delete your information and stop selling it.
Using DROP can help reduce spam and scams, limit tracking and unwanted ads, and shrink your digital footprint, all while keeping your information secure. Data brokers start processing requests August 1, 2026.
